My perfect pick a path

 Kia Ora and welcome back,

GOALS: Measure angles using degrees L3 (Identify and construct right, acute and obtuse angles, know the number of degrees that make a quarter turn, half turn, three quarter turn and a whole turn. Know that the angle at a point is 360°

This week for maths we have been looking at angles. So as my create I made a pick a path all about angles. One of my favourite angles is the 360 one because it is a full circle and the circle is actually one of my favourites shapes.

Here is my pick a path

What is your favourite angle???

House of bricks recount

Kia Ora and welcome back bloggers,

last Friday we had the house of bricks come in to our school to do a butch of LEGO activities to help build up our grit some of the activities that we did were make LEGO mosaic's, we also did a competition of who could get there car to go faster and then after that we did another competition in groups of four to five so that we could then make a huge huge tower with just LEGO.

here is my house of bricks reflection writing

My favourite Lego activity was building the cars because it was a great challenge and I also really enjoyed going back and testing it over and over again after testing it a lot me and my buddy Sophie realised that the longer and heavier it was the faster it will go so at the last couple of minutes we started adding all this crazy stuff on it to make it go even faster.

My least favourite Lego activity was making the mosaics because after I finished doing one of the designs I had to take it all apart and start again and for me taking it apart took so long and was also really frustrating.

The activity that tested my perseverance the most was building the towers because if you get too high then it will just break. Our team's tower broke when it got too high and too thin and that was a little bit annoying.

The most challenging activity was the towers because it was hard trying to get the perfect structure and also be quick. Near the end my fingers were so sore.

I enjoyed working collaboratively with others because it made it so much easier to get everything done and I also think that two brains are better than one brain.

Kia Ora and welcome back bloggers,

Our goal for this week is Support ideas with detail, write content relevant to the task., use reference sources to check meanings and find new words.

This weeks create task for reading was to make something that teaches people about water or air pollution and that also conveniences people to stop littering. So I picked an animation about water pollution. here is the link to my animation.

Have you ever made an animation?

Perfect persuasive writing

Kia Ora and welcome back to my blog,

For the past 3 weeks we have been in lock down and today was our first day back at school I was so excited to be back in school.

When we were in lock down we did some online learning. For this weeks learning I did some persuasive writing we had a whole list of topics to chose from I chose pets should not be allowed in school.
here is my persuasive writing

Pets should not be allowed in school
I believe that pets should not be allowed in school for many different reasons.

For instance what if someone had an allergy or they were scared of the pets. Also where would we put them? We don't have any cages. Pets like dogs and even cats need a lot of attention, and you can't expect a student to do that while managing studies as well.

Some students may have a hard time focusing on the teacher when there are animals in the classroom. Also what would we feed them for a whole day, they would need to eat something just like we do.

Do you think pets should or should not be allowed in school??

Great Graphs

Kia ora and welcome back, how are you?

This week for maths we had to make graphs of all sorts of graphs, so I chose to do a bar graph and a histogram.

My goal is to display data using a stem and leaf graph, choose an appropriate data, display using more than one variable, interpret information from graphs plan an investigation.

how we did it: first we started of by asking people in the hub what was there favourite number, mine is the number 50, what is yours? Then we did a stem and leaf graph in our books with all the data we collected. Next we asked everyone if they would rather do a bur pee or a push up, mine was a push up, then finally we did one of birthday months (if you want to see some of my graphs click the link)

What month were you born in???

My Happiness book

Kia Ora,
For the past week we have been writing happiness books to teach the kids in Kākano about the four happy brain chemicals Oxytocin, Serotonin, Dopamine and lastly Endorphins
and our goal was for them to hopefully learn something and understand it all
(click the link to see my happiness book called The Key to Happiness)

Persuasive writing

 Koa ora, and welcome back

this week we have been looking out pervasive writing so are create this week was to make a persuasive argument so the topic I chose was save the animals and stop littering

So here is my persuasive argument...

Save the animals and stop littering

Stop littering!!!!!

Who loves animals? Well what if I told you there  was a way that you could help the animals from getting killed . All you would need to do is take an extra minute or two to put your rubbish in the bin.

Instead of just putting rubbish on the floor you should actually stop and think about how this affects the environment.  For example plastic litter,  plastic litter is one of the most common killers of animals, but particularly marine animals. Each year over 100,000 dolphins, fish, whales, turtles, and more drown after becoming tangled in or digesting plastic litter. Even  just picking up someone else's litter can make a big difference in the world . So after looking at what this really does to the animals will you stop littering?

umbrella writing

 Kia ora, how are you?

For this terms PBL we are learning about empathy so for our writhing we watched a short film called umbrella to understand empathy a little bit more. Then we had to write a bit of the short film that we watched.

Here is my writing

-Umbrella-

Early one dreary wintry morning, the door to Miss Elem’s Home for Children sprung open. The girl with the vibrant sunshine yellow umbrella nervously entered the orphanage before finding a home for her umbrella.

Not wanting to be seen, Boris quickly whipped his head around the door frame so that he was hidden from view.

Standing off to the side the girl watched as the other children started to ding deep down into the box of toys.

The girl started to smile as she watched the young boy bolting across the room like a rocket ship.

Her smile quickly disappeared as she saw her umbrella had vanished, and all that was left was a couple of puddles her beloved umbrella had vanished!!

Can you find the similes in this text?

Trip recount.

kia ora and welcome back, how are you?

On week 3 term 2 our whole hub went to Margret Mahy playground to learn all about our Māori history and culture we went on a waka feed the eels went to Victoria square and we also learnt about all the things engraved in the ground, did you know that the things on the ground actually sing a song and one of them is called my mums a pirate.

So after the trip we all had to write a recount. This is what mine looks likes

On Thursday the 20th of May we all headed to town for our town trip to Margaret Mahy to learn more about NZ Māori culture.

We all spent a day doing 4 rotations. The rotations were waka, feeding the eels and learning about the Maori Mats, Margaret Mahy and Victoria Square.

The first thing I did was look at the Maori Mats and feed the eels. When we were looking at the Maori Mats we saw lots of cool designs and shapes and I also learnt lots of cool facts about them. Like did you know that if there was an earthquake you could actually take the Mat out without getting damaged and the bricks that they were made out of are put in sideways to look more interesting.

Next we went down to feed the eels. It was finally my turn, we went in groups of six and fed the eels cat food with plastic spoons. I didn't know that eels liked cat food, I found it interesting seeing the eels eat the food off the spoons. When I was holding the cat food I dropped some in the water, I then got some more but unfortunately they were mostly staying under the deck so we didn't get to see them much or feed them but it was still fun.

Next we set off to the waka, but before we went on the waka we had a little snack, then soon after we went on the waka. When we were on the waka we said a Māori chant while we were going along the Avon river. There were lots of ducks and swans around us and it was really fun and we raced the other waka because there were two wakas.

When we got off the waka we went to Victoria Square, the first thing we did when we were there was learn a little bit of the history about it. After that Sophie and I went to explore a little bit about Victoria Square. Here is one of the things we found out about Victoria: she was born on the 24th of May 1819 and died on the 22nd of January 1901.

For our last rotation we went back to Margaret Mahy to learn a little bit about the words and designs engraved in the concrete. Did you know that the words engraved in the concrete actually sing a song! We were given pieces of paper so we could go around and trace the designs on the concrete, we then had something to eat and also a little play at the end. My favourite things to play on are the big twirly whirly slide and the zip line.

Overall my favourite part of the trip was going on the Waka because I have never done something like that before and it is something I would love to do again with my friends and family or even my school. I also enjoyed feeding the eels because they are so cool.

Something I learnt was the words engraved in Margaret Mahy park actually sing a song, one of them is called “My mum is a Pirate” and that is why the sand pit is pirate themed. I also found out about Victoria and when she died. Margaret Mahy used to be a marketplace where people went to sell stuff or trade stuff for other stuff like tuna or some of the food they had back then.

Overall my favourite was the waka, it is so interesting because of the things that they say and all the cool designs on it I never knew people still had waka's

This trip has helped me with my PBL because it helped me understand my Turangawaiwai more and see the Māori culture and  I really enjoyed coming here on a school trip.

Thanks for reading-bye bye.

Mad Maths!!!!!

Hi every one welcome back
This week for maths I have been working on repeated addition so here are some examples of repeated addition.

Goal: - solve problems by using repeated addition with problems involving 2's 3's 5's 10's
Here are some examples of repeated addition
4 x 5= 5+5+5+5=20
5 x 4= 4+4+4+4+4=20
2 x 9= 9+9=18
5 x 10= 10+10+10+10+10=50
4 x 2= 2+2+2+2=8
6 x 5= 5+5+5+5+5+5=30
10 x 2= 2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2=20
Here is some skip counting in 2’s,3’s,5’s,10’s
2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20
3,6,9,12,15,18,21,24,27,30
5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50
